The book is based on an interdisciplinary perspective and provides insight into the time and context in which Pergolesi’s genius flourished. Special emphasis is placed upon archival research: over 10000 unpublished documents about the musical and theatrical life in Naples in the early 18th century are brought to light, so as to offer a new historical reconstruction of that age.

Il libro raccoglie gli atti del convegno internazionale Sopra il gusto moderno: Civiltà musicale napoletana nell’età di Pergolesi, tenutosi a Napoli nel Gennaio del 2010 nell’ambito delle celebrazioni per i 300 anni della nascita di Pergolesi. Il volume esplora l’epoca e il contesto in cui fiorì il genio di Pergolesi in prospettiva interdisciplinare. Particolare rilievo ha la ricerca archivistico-documentaria: oltre 10000 notizie inedite sulla vita teatrale e musicale a Napoli nel primo Settecento sono riportate alla luce e permettono una nuova ricostruzione storica di quella stagione.
The book contains the proceedings of the conference Sopra il gusto moderno: Civiltà musicale napoletana nell’età di Pergolesi, held in Naples in January 2010 as part of the celebrations for the 300th anniversary of Pergolesi’s birth.
