This volume is an introduction to crime writing in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). While "police narratives" in Spain can be traced back to iconic writers of the 19th-century, such as the Duque de Rivas, Jose Zorrilla, Pedro Antonio de Alarcon, Benito Perez Galdos, and Emilia Pardo Bazan, the volume will focus on the present day.

Iberian Crime Fiction traces the origins and development of crime fiction in Spain and Portugal from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Leading scholars of crime fiction cover all aspects of the genre in the peninsula, including surveys of major authors, a study of women’s crime fiction, a consideration of the rise of the novella negra tradition, and an account of the genre’s mid-1950s peak in popularity, as well as an analysis of current trends and authors.
